Abstract

A lubricating composition comprises a major amount of a synthetic ester based fluid and minor amounts of N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine or its alkyl derivatives together with dipyridylamines, aminoquinolines, aminopyridines or their mixtures, the ester based fluid comprising at least one alkanol unit and at least one alkane carboxylic acid unit, both preferably C4- 12. Preferred amounts are 0.01 to 5% by weight. The base fluid can be a diester, complex ester or polyester or blends thereof and numerous examples are given. Optional ingredients are natural esters e.g. castor oil, silicones, a titanium containing polymer, and acryloid polymers.
