A portable conveyer comprises an endless chain 8 and driving motor 14 mounted wholly within the framework 1 of the conveyer. It is thus possible to use the conveyer for both loading and unloading merely by turning the framework round through 180 degrees. The conveyer is adapted for conveying hay bales which are propelled by flights 13 on the endless chain 8 and are supported on runners 6, 6.
