Abstract
Cupric oxycarbonate having the constitutional formula CuCO3.Cu(OH)2 and a mean particle diameter of the order of 1 micron is prepared by reacting cupric hydroxide with carbon dioxide in the presence of water until the copper content of the solid phase has decreased to the theoretical amount calculated according to the formula given above. The cupric hydroxide is preferably freshly precipitated immediately before use. The cupric oxycarbonate is used in fungicidal compositions (see Division A5). Specification 967,514 is referred to.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions, particularly adapted for agricultural use without preliminary pulverisation, comprise cupric oxycarbonate having the constitutional formula CuCO3.Cu(OH)2 and a mean particle diameter of the order of 1 micron, in admixture with one or more application agents, i.e. dispersing, adhesive or wetting agents. Carriers, extenders, and solvents or diluents may also be present. The composition is preferably prepared in the form of a concentrated wettable paste, which can readily be diluted with water to form a sprayable product. Application agents specified are alkali metal, calcium and amine salts of lignosulphites, alkylaryl sulphonates, polyphosphates, alginic acid derivatives, N - methyl - N - oleyl - taurides, polyvinyl alcohols, hydroxyethyl - celluloses and condensation products of alkylphenols and ethylene oxide.
