Abstract
Hydration-resistant dolomite sinter and bricks are prepared from raw dolomite by initially heating at below 1100 DEG C. to yield a porous product which is impregnated with a solution or dispersion of silica, alumina, or zirconium silicate, applied by spraying or dipping, and then heating at above 1100 DEG C. to produce dolomite sinter; said sinter is converted to brick by treatment with silica, alumina, or zirconium silicate in an organic media, pressing and firing. According to examples: (1) dolomite (5-35 mm.) was burnt at 800 DEG C. and dip impregnated with aqueous silica suspension and fired at 1700 DEG C. to form a sinter containing 1.5% of silica; (2) sinter as prepared in (1) was impregnated with silica in mould-dressing oil, pressed and fired at 1550 DEG C.; (3) sinter was produced as in (1) using alumina; (4) sinter was produced as in (3) and treated with alumina in mould-dressing oil, pressed and fired at 1550 DEG C. The porosity of the bricks produced in Examples 2 and 4 is 17-20% vol.
