Abstract

981,057. Slip rings for dynamo-electric machines. BROWN BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Oct. 2, 1963 [Oct. 4, 1962], No. 38750/63. Heading H2A. In a wound rotor induction motor the slip rings are short-circuited by contacts (not shown) carried by sleeve 2 which is axially moved by block 3 engaging with groove 1 in the sleeve. Movement of the sleeve is transmitted to cam 9, pivoted at 8, by means of auxiliary block 4 which closely fits groove 1 so that inductor lamp 12 is turned off when follower 10 engages the slot in the cam face. If block 3 is worn, cam 9 will not rotate far enough for the follower to engage the slot and lamp 12 will remain alight. In a modification the pivotable link arm to the auxiliary block is extended beyond its fulcrum and this extension used to operate an indicator switch. The indicator may be interlocked with the motor starting switch so that the motor cannot be operated again until the block is replaced.
