980, 795. Selecting record sheets. J. HANDLEY. Jan. 10, 1963 [Jan. 29, 1962], No. 3335/62. Heading G4M. In apparatus for withdrawing a selected record sheet from a stack in which a pair of gripper jaws 28, 29 are movable parallel to a plane containing exposed edges of the sheets in order to select a sheet, the jaws are moved into engagement with the selected sheet by movement of a pneumatic piston 1 which lowers bar 2, slidable in rack bar 20, and jaws 28, 29 until the jaws are in engagement with the sheet. Pin 32, fixed to rack bar 20, then engages the top of slot 31 in a bar 30 which has lugs (not shown) extending on either side of bar 2 and connected by pins 4 passing through slots 24 in bar 2, to prevent further downward movement of the jaws. In the final part of the stroke of piston 1, bar 2 moves relative to bar 30 and its end 8 cams a double-ended lever 9 pivoted at 6 to close jaw 29 against fixed jaw 28 and thereby grip the sheet. The sheet may then be withdrawn from the stock by means of rack 21 and pinion 22. After re-inserting the sheet in the stack by means of the rack and pinion, piston 1 is driven upwards, springs 5 prevent bar 30 rising so that bar 2 moves away from lever 9 and opens the jaws. When the bottom of slots 24 engage pins 4 the bar 30 and jaws 28, 29 are raised together until the rest position, with pin 32 engaging the bottom of slot 31 is reached.
