Abstract
980,702. Gear pumps. G. A. WAHLMARK. April 13, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 13259/61. Heading F1F. A gear pump comprises a housing 20 containing the gears 1, a housing 21 containing a pressure relief valve 2, and secured between these two housings, a body 12 containing the passage through which the liquid passes. On one face of the body 12 is formed a chamber 6 into which liquid is pumped through a passage 3. Formed in the chamber 6 are concentric annular valve seats 7, 8 against which a diaphragm 9, is pressed by spring 10. Delivery pressure in the chamber 6 lifts the diaphragm 9 from the valve seat 7, allowing liquid to pass through a passage 4<SP>1</SP> to the outlet port and through a passage 5<SP>1</SP> to the inlet side of the pump. A further passage 15 containing a needle valve (Fig. 3, not shown) connects the chamber 6 to the inlet side of the pump, and adjustment of this valve varies the time taken for the pump to come up to pressure on starting.
