[Division B3] Rotation of a nut 31 in one direction results in downward feed of a screw 30, which is prevented from rotating by a pin 43 engaging a wall 49 of a vertical slot 42 in a fixed guide 29, and on reversal of rotation, the scrwe 30 performs limited angular movement, allowed by the pin 43 moving across the slot 42 and engaging the other side wall, whereupon a sleeve 28 moves upwardly due to the engagement of pins 46 with grooves 45 in a member 44 secured to the screw 30. Rotational movement of the sleeve 28 is prevented by the engagement of a pin 47 in a vertical groove 48 in the fixed guide 29. The mechanism is used to control the feed rate of an electrode attached to a spindle 19 in a spark erosion machine. The spindle 19 is attached to the end of a pivoted lever 25 having, intermediate its ends, an arm 27 which rests on the sleeve 28. In a modification, shown in Fig. 4, sleeve 28 is mounted directly in guide 29 and has an upper cam surface 50.
