Abstract
The invention comprises quinaldinium derivatives of the formula <FORM:0980394/C2/1> where R is an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or alkanoyl radical containing not more than 12 carbon atoms. The compounds where R is an alkyl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl radical may be prepared by reacting a decamethylene dihalide with a 4-substituted amino-quinaldine of the formula <FORM:0980394/C2/2> where R is an alkyl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl radical and, if desired, converting the resulting quaternary halide into another salt by conventional methods, e.g. double decomposition. The compounds where R is an alkanoyl radical may be prepared by reacting a decamethylene-bis-(4-amino-quinaldinium salt) with an appropriate acylating agent, e.g. an aliphatic carboxylic acid halide or anhydride. The compounds are stated to possess anti-microbial activity.
