Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0833807/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents a methyl, ethyl or propyl group, R1 and R2 are the same or different and represent atoms of hydrogen or chlorine, and n is an integer from 2 to 5 inclusive; and acid addition salts thereof; and the preparation thereof, (a) by treatment of a compound of the general formula <FORM:0833807/IV (b)/2> wherein M represents an atom of an alkali metal, with a compound of the general formula <FORM:0833807/IV (b)/3> wherein X represents an atom of bromine or chlorine, (b) by treatment of a compound of the general formula <FORM:0833807/IV (b)/4> with a compound of the general formula <FORM:0833807/IV (b)/5> in the presence of an acid acceptor, being either an excess of II or a separate compound such as potassium carbonate; and, if desired, preparation of salts of the products by acid addition. The products have anti-histaminic activity. The substituted pyrrolidine intermediates I (X=Cl) can be prepared by treatment of a compound having the general formula II with thionyl chloride.
