Abstract

The invention comprises salts of a -acetylaminoisocaproic acid and monoethanolamine, piperazine and N-methylglucamine, the preparation of which is described in Examples VI to XI. In Example VII double decomposition in aqueous solution (piperazine sulphate and barium a -acetylaminoisocaproate) is followed by concentration of the solution to produce crystallization. In the other examples the acid is added to a solution of the base in water. The salts are anti-vertigo agents.ALSO:A pharmaceutical composition of utility in combating vertigo comprises at least one compound containing an a -acetylaminoisocaproic anion in a sterile diluent medium. Specified compounds are a -acetylaminoisocaproic acid, the alkali metal (preferably sodium) salts of the acid, and the salts obtained by combining the acid with monoethanolamine, piperazine, morpholine and N-methylglucamine. The compound may be racemic or optically active and its concentration in the composition, calculated as acid, should be at least 1 per cent and preferably 5 to 25 per cent by weight.
