Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0980387/C2/1> (in which R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5\t represent hydrogen atoms or C1- 4 alkyl, phenyl or phenethyl groups, or R3 and R4 together represent a tetramethylene group, and R6 represents a C1- 4 alkyl, phenyl, halophenyl, trifluoromethylphenyl, (C1- 4 alkyl)phenyl, (C1- 4 alkoxy)phenyl, dialkoxyphenyl, hydroxy-methoxyphenyl, dialkylaminophenyl, naphthyl, thienyl, indolyl or pyridyl group) and acid addition salts thereof, their preparation by (a) condensing a diamine of the formula NHR1CR2R3CR4R5NH2 with an a -keto ester of the formula R7OOC.COR6 (in which R7 represents a C1- 4 alkyl group), followed by ring closure, or (b)-in cases where R1 is a C1- 4 alkyl group-reacting the corresponding compound in which R1 is a hydrogen atom with a C1- 4 alkylating agent in the presence of an alkali metal hydride, optionally followed in either case by acid addition salt formation, and pharmaceutical preparations containing them. The compounds of the invention are analgesics and may be administered orally or parenterally in the form of pharmaceutical preparations (e.g. capsules, tablets and elixirs) containing them.
