Abstract
980,192. Electronic counters. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 24, 1961 [May 24, 1960], No. 18256/60. Heading G4A. [Also in Division H3] Each stage of a ring counter comprises a single transister such as TR1-TR4 the collector of which is coupled by a resistor/capacitor network to the base of the suceeding transistor, the arrangement being that one transistor is operative at a time under the control of two complementary pulse trains P1, P2 which are applied respectively to the odd- and even-numbered stages. The pulse trains are ineffective until a start pulse has been applied to lead ST to make TR1 conduct. The relationship between R2 and C1 may be varied according to the frequency of the current supplied to P1 and P2. To ensure that only one stage shall be effective at any one time the emitters of all stages may be connected through a current-limiting network, Fig. 3, to a potential source. The count may be indicated by a potential taken from the collector of each stage, Fig. 1, or from the emitter connected to the base of a further transistor, Fig. 4.
