Abstract
990,435. Electronic counters. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 10, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1961], No. 46519/62. Heading G4A. [Also in Divisions H3 and H4] A ring counter comprises stages each consisting of a PNP and an NPN transistor so arranged in a regenerative circuit that they are either conducting or non-conducting together. Operation of the reset key removes earth from transistors 503. . .505 so that all these stages become non conducting, and at the same time applies earth to the base of 502 to turn it on whereupon 501 is turned on due to a negative pulse applied over the condenser to its base. Positive pulses subsequently to the drive lead 509 cuts off 501 and 502 follows to pulse the subsequent stage which thus turns on; and so on. The ring counter is used in a speech synthesizer (see Divisions H3 and H4).
