Abstract

979,635. Removing lint and fibre waste in industrial processes. PARKS - CRAMER (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. April 5, 1962 [April 24, 1961], No. 13086/62. Heading F4X. [Also in Division D1] An overhead suction cleaning apparatus 10, e.g. for removing lint and fibre waste from the floor of a room containing a plurality of textile machines, comprises a carriage 11 mounted on wheels 12 and 13 which run on tracks 14 and 15, at least one suction nozzle 29 (Fig. 1) communicating with the suction side of fan 23, at least one outlet duct 32 or 33 and at least one collection chamber 34 or 35 mounted to travel with the fan 23. As shown, the apparatus 10 travels over textile machines 20. Fan 23 is rotated by a motor 21 and sucks in fibre-laden air via nozzles 29, flexible tubes 27, 28, inlet ducts 26, 25 into a casing 22 from which it is sucked through opening 22b into fan easing 22a. Fan 23 then discharges the air stream and material through outlet ducts 32, 33 into collection chambers 34, 35 where the air escapes through screens 36, 37, 38 and 39. Baffles 40, 41 direct the air stream in such a manner that the air currents within the chambers 34, 35 assume a circular path, creating a low pressure area in the central portions of said chambers, thus causing the waste material to be deposited in the centre of the chambers and away from the screens. The collection chambers are substantially cylindrical with vertical axis and the ducts 32, 33 are offset with respect to the axis of the chambers in order to help create the circular movement of the air. At spaced points along tracks 14, 15 a screen cleaning device 62 may be incorporated. The device 62 comprises an air supply pipe 63 and pipes 64, 65, 66 and 67 which are so positioned that when the collecting chambers move past said points on the tracks, openings formed in the pipes immediately overlie the screen members 36, 37, 38, and 39 respectively. Air is blown through the screens via pipe 63, the flow of air being controlled by a valve 71. Valve 71 is operated by a solenoid 72 which is controlled by a box 73 having timing means for maintaining solenoid 72 energized for a predetermined length of time after initial energization. A switch 74 mounted on a bracket 16 on the side of track 15 initiates the energization of the solenoid and this is triggered by a feeler arm 75 mounted thereon being engaged by an extension 76 mounted on the side of wheel 13.
