Abstract

979,443. Springs. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG - NURNBERG A.G. Nov. 10, 1961, No. 40291/61. Heading F2S. An adjustably - precompressible compound spring for vehicle suspensions comprising a helical spring 3 and a rubber compression spring 4 is characterized in that the bearing plates of the helical and the rubber spring are relatively adjustable at least at one end of the compound spring. As shown, the upper bearing plates 5, 6 for the springs 3, 4 respectively are secured to the sprung part 1 of a vehicle and the lower bearing plate 7 for the helical spring 3, which is secured to an unsprung vehicle part 2, carries a bush 8 which is also fitted into the vehicle part 2. The spring 4, in two parts separated by a plate 12, has a lower bearing plate 11 which non-rotatively engages a pin 10 which is axially adjustable within the bush 8 by means of a screw 9 which works in the bottom end of the bush 8. The position of the screw 9 determines the degree of precompression of the rubber spring 4. Bores are provided in the separating plate 12, the pin 10, and the screw 9, to vent the hollow spring 4. Relativelyadjustable bearing plates may be incorporated at the upper end of the compound spring.
