Abstract

979,327. Bearings. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. Dec. 24, 1963 [Jan. 9, 1963], No. 1035/63. Heading F2A. [Also in Division D1] In a spindle for spinning &c. machines having a rotary package-carrying blade 10 mounted in an intermediate resiliently-mounted bearing 13 and a laterally-movable footstep 14, between the race or housing of the bearing 13 and a non-rotary support 15 there is interposed a resilient cushion 20 of which at least one of its contact surfaces is inclined to the spindle axis. The inclined contact surface(s) may be continuous, e.g. frusto-conical or discontinuous, being in that case provided by making the surface polyhedral, and may be downwardly inclined towards the spindle axis at an angle of 5-60 degrees. The cushion may be bonded to one or both of the adjacent surfaces. The support 15 is mounted in a bolster 16, and may have a helical slit 151 to make it flexible, while oil-immersed damping-bushes 17 may be provided.
