Abstract

979,035. Dispensing liquids. BRITISH SYPHON CO. Ltd. Nov. 1, 1963 [Dec. 19, 1962], No. 47939/62. Heading A4T. [Also in Division F4] Beverage cooling and dispensing equipment in which the beverage in flowing from a supply source to a dispensing valve flows through a product coil immersed in liquid in a tank connected by flow and return lines to a reservoir of chilled liquid comprises valve means whereby part of the warmed liquid returning from the tank is re-circulated to the tank without substantial cooling in the reservoir. As illustrated, a beverage flowing from a supply container (not shown) through pipes 15 passes through product coils (Fig. 2, not shown) in tanks 8 and 9 before passing to dispensing valves 11. The tanks 8 and 9 are connected to a water bath 4 containing an ice-bank evaporator 3 by return pipes 6c and 7c respectively and to pumps 6 and 7 by flow pipes 6b and 7b respectively. The pumps 6 and 7 are connected to the bottom of bath 4 by pipes 6a and 7a. As shown in Fig. 3 the pipes 6c and 7c discharge into the top of bath 4 and are provided at their discharge ends with adjustable valves 6d and 7d which are adjusted so that a portion of the water from pipes 6c and 7c passes through by-pass pipes 6e and 7e directly to the pump inlet pipes 6a and 7a. The by-pass pipes communicate with the interior of bath 4 through apertures 6f and 7f adjacent the bottom thereof. Additional control over the temperature to which the beverage is cooled is provided by thermostats (not shown) in tanks 8 and 9 which control the operation of pumps 6 and 7. In a modification more than one product coil is housed in the same tank.
