Abstract

Dyes of the following formula may be prepared by nitrating diarylamino-anthraquinone compounds with nitric acid and sulphuric acid. <FORM:0978731/C4-C5/1> The value of n may be 2, 3 or 4, and one of the Y groups is arylamino, the other two being hydrogen. Dinitro - 1,4 - di - (parachloroanilido) anthraquinone is specified.ALSO:Polyester fibres and materials are dyed or printed with dyes having the general formula <FORM:0978731/D1-D2/1> in which one Y is an arylamino group, the other two being hydrogen, n has the value 2, 3 or 4 and the aryl groups may be replaced by halogen atoms, or alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals. Specified dyes include the following dinitroanthraquinone derivatives, 1, 4, di anilido, 1, 4, di ortho, meta and para toluido, 1, 4, di(3141 dimethyl-anilido) 1, 4, di para chloroanilido, 1, 5 di para toluido and 1, 5 dianilido. Trinitron 1, 5 di(para toluido)-anthraquinone and tetranitro 1, 5, dianilido-anthraquinone are also specified. In examples polyethylene glycol terephthalate material is printed in the presence of (1) sodium salt of sulphonated castor oil, (2) polyacrylamide and a polyglycol ether.
