Abstract
978,617. Making double-walled bags. LAMSON PARAGON Ltd. June 14, 1963 [June 15, 1962], No. 23163/62. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B8] Holes 5, Fig. 1, e.g. for draw-strings, are made in a folded and transversely sealed flattened tube before it is cut along the transverse seals into bags 4. As shown, the holes 5 are made by punches 6 depressed simultaneously with a heated blade 3 which forms the transverse seals and severs individual bags. Needles 7, Fig. 3, carrying a draw-string 9 are inserted in the holes 10 in the outer wall of the bag at one edge thereof, and are threaded between the walls of the bag and out through corresponding holes 10 at the other edge until the draw-string is free of the needles. A second draw-string is then threaded through the needles which are withdrawn to insert the second draw-string. The free ends of the draw-strings 9 and 12 are tied to produce the bag of Fig. 6. When the bag is of paper the tube is sealed transversely by adhesive and severed by a guillotine. The longitudinal folding of the tube may be nearer one of its edges to produce an extended flap on one side of the bag mouth which facilitates insertion of the contents.
