Abstract
978,501. Insulators. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Nov. 5, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No. 43721/63. Heading H2C. The Figure shows a section through the sheds of an insulator projecting from the main insulator body 1. Each shed has non-parallel sides and tapers in thickness from root to tip. The sides terminate in concave curves 2F, 2G. The dimensions of the insulator satisfy the following requirements:- l s (1) The ratio - # 2.5 where l s is the disb tance over the shed between the points where it joins points curves 2F, 2G, and b is the distance between sheds measured between these points on adjacent sheds. a (2) - # 1 where a is the root width of the b shed measured between these points. (3) b # 11 mm. In the construction of Fig. 3 (not shown), alternate ribs are 10 mm. larger than the intermediate ones and are inclined to a line perpendicular to the insulator axis by 9 degrees. In Fig. 4, also not shown, each shed has one sharp edge to help the water to drop off and there are two small sheds between each pair of large ones. A complete 65 kv. insulator of cast resin with twenty-one large and twenty-one small ribs is described with reference to Fig. 5, not shown.
