Abstract
Cellulosic textile materials, e.g. cotton, cuprammonium rayon and viscose rayon fabrics, are crease proofed and rendered resistant to abrasion by first swelling them to a predetermined degree and then treating them in the wet condition with a solution of formaldehyde in the presence of a mineral or organic acid or acid producing substance and a thermoplastic resin before passing them to a pad-roll dyeing machine or an ager in which the temperature and humidity are controlled within the range 120 DEG F. (dry bulb) and 115 DEG F. (wet bulb) to 175 DEG F. (dry bulb) and 170 DEG F. (wet bulb), and then drying them. The acid used may be hydrochloric acid and the thermoplastic resin, which preferably constitutes 0.5-3% by volume of the acid solution, may be polyacrylic acid.
