[Also in Division B1] A mercury manometer 26 indicates the pressure difference between the liquid on the outside and that on the inside of a tubular filter element 16. A tightly-fitting slider 41, e.g. of a plastics material, indicates the uppermost level reached, and if it reaches passage 38, prevents mercury from passing therethrough into the filtrate (e.g. oil or fuel). When a clogged filter element has been replaced and the mercury level has fallen in consequence the slider 41 may be moved down, e.g. by tapping, until it again rests on the mercury surface.
