Abstract

977,859. Shredding apparatus. H. & D. ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Dec. 6, 1963 [Dec. 12, 1962], No. 46921/62. Heading B2A. ; The interlacing rotatable blades of a papershredding machine are arranged to be driven at different speeds from one another. As described, cutters are fixed to cross-shafts 12, 13, 14, which are arranged parallel and with their axes in a triangular configuration, and driven by a chain 5 passing around different-sized sprockets secured to their ends. Each cutter may have seven sets of eight radially-extending blades 15 each set being fixed to a diametricallysplit collar. Each half 16 of the collar carries four blades, and the collars are screwed and keyed together and to the shaft. The keying tongues 18 and slots 19 on the collars are staggered so that the blades are staggered from end to end of the shaft in a helical formation, and the tongues and slots on the first and last collars co-operate with similar slots and tongues 20 on end rings 21 keyed to the shafts. Waste material is fed into the machine by a conveyer, which may be dnven by a short chain from a main motor 1 or by the main chain 5. Shredded material is withdrawn, either by suction means below the cutters, or by a second conveyer.
