Abstract

Each of two contrarotating horizontal cutter discs (1, 2) has a conical housing (7) on which is a pair of diametrally opposed fins (9). At the base of the housing is a disc with four blades at 90 deg. to one another. Above the disc is part (11) of a helical flight with negative pitch, including an upward current of air and raising the crop upwards after it has been cut. Above and behind the rotors is a horizontal and cylindrical drum (3) with fins (16) along its length. The plants cut by blades (15) are laid with their lower ends facing the drum under the influence of fins (9) the conical housings and the flights (11). The latter lift the crop to pass between the discs where it is taken over by the drum to be fed further into the machine. Any foreign bodies tend to be projected out of the sides of the feed passage (4) away from the drum.
