In a portable solar still of the type which comprises an outer transparent waterproof shell 1, which is distended by the inflation of an inner framework of inflatable tubes 12, 13 and supports an absorbent fabric bag 2, the fabric bag is provided with a system of elastic cords 16 which are under elastic tension when the still is distended. In the event of an accidental partial deflation of the framework of tubes 12, 13, the elastic cords will contract, causing the fabric bag to collapse inwards thus ensuring that no contamination of the condensate occurs through the contact of the bag with the shell.
