Abstract

977,572. Floating tanks. EKSTRAND & CO. PATENTAKTIEBOLAG. Dec. 17, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1961], No. 47522/62. Heading E1T. A bottomless tank 1 adapted to float on water and used for storing oil, gasoline or other liquids non-miscible with and lighter than water is provided with a slanting roof the overall height L of which in centimetres is given by the formula V/Yx6 where V is the tanks weight in kilogrammes and Y is the area of the horizontal cross-section of the tank in square metres-the arrangement ensuring a ventilation chamber for air and gases. The tank may be made out of sheet metal and is provided with an exhaust conduit 4. The roof may be of inverted conical form with a series of exhaust pipes around its periphery or otherwise modified in shape, see Figs. 2, 3 and 4 (not shown). Again, a plane roof may be utilized having a series of undercut slanting grooves communicating at their highest points with exhaust ducts, see Fig. 5 (not shown).
