Abstract

977,529. Supporting overhead lines. G. Z. MILOW. March 28, 1962 [April 14, 1961], No. 11910/62. Heading H2L. The device shown in Fig. 2 is intended to disengage a power line 4 from the arm of a mast if the line breaks on either side of the mast. The line is supported from an insulator string 3, the top one of which is supported on an enlarged head 17<SP>11</SP> of the member 17. This member is supported in a member 11 and is free to rock on a pair of rounded surfaces 18 which engage in concave shoulders 14. A knife edge 19 at the top of the member 17 engages a recess 15. In operation, if the line at one side breaks, the surfaces at one side move sufficiently far along surfaces 14 to disengage the knife when the entire member 17 falls away. A cable 22, anchored to a point nearer the mast may then support the cable and prevent it disengaging at the next tower. The assembly is pivoted by a pin 8 to a member 6 bolted to the tower arm so as to allow it to be used for a corner tower. Where the cable on one side of the tower is lower than the other, an asymmetrical device may be used as shown dotted.
