Abstract
Trimethylol propane polyester lubricating oils are stabilized against deterioration by incorporating 0.1% to 5% by weight of either p-alkoxy-diphenylanimes, p-p1-dialkoxydiphenylamines or p-acyloxydiphenylamines in which the alkoxy and acyloxy groups contain 1-8 carbon atoms, and the acyloxy group is the residue of a carboxylic acid. Particularly preferred p-alkoxy- and p,p1-dialkoxyphenylamines are p-methoxy-, p,p1 -dimethoxy-, p-isopropoxy-, and p,p1-diiso-propoxydiphenylamine. The p-alkoxy- or p,p1-dialkoxy compounds may have an aryl substituent attached to the alkyl portion, thus p-benzyloxydiphenylamine is a preferred compound. A particularly preferred p-acyloxydiphenylamine is p-acetoxydiphenylamine. The inhibitor is mixed with the oil preferably to form a homogeneous mixture and may be used with other additives e.g. a metal deactivator, dye, viscosity index improver, pour point depressant, anti-foaming additive, detergent, and lubricity or extreme pressure additive.ALSO:Trimethylolpropane polyester lubricating oils are stabilized against deterioration by incorporating 0.1-5% by weight of either p-alkoxydiphenylamines, p,p1 - dialkoxydiphenylamines or p-acyloxydiphenylamines in which the alkoxy and acyloxy groups contain 1-8 carbon atoms, and the acyloxy group is the residue of a carboxylic acid. Particularly preferred p-alkoxy and p,p1-dialkoxydiphenylamines are p-methoxy-, p,p1-dimethoxy-, p-isopropoxy -, and p,p1 - diisopropxydiphenylamine. The p-alkoxy or p,p1-dialkoxy compounds may have an aryl substituent attached to the alkyl portion, thus p-benzyl-oxydiphenylamine is a preferred compound. A particularly preferred p-acyloxydiphenylamine is p-acetoxydiphenylamine.
