Abstract
976,776. Cooling discharge apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 28, 1961, No. 34959/61. Heading H1D. An evaporative cooling system for a thermionic valve 4 having a longitudinally ribbed anode 2 comprises a boiler 1 provided with an internal condenser having cooling coils 12, 13 for condensing the evaporate and at least some of the cooling coils are disposed around the space for the anode in such a manner that when the anode is in position within the boiler they provide, with the longitudinal ribs, vertical channels promoting thermo-syphoning of the coolant and restrict transverse movement of bubbles. The coils preferably comprise two contrawound helices, joined at one of their ends, and with leads 14 at their other ends for transmission of the coolant, the inner set of coils 12 being positioned close to the anode, thus providing a constant flow of liquid-vapour emulsion against the anode, but restricting transverse movement of the emulsion. A preferred embodiment with typical dimensions is described.
