Abstract

1, 2-Diphenyl-4-alkyl-3, 5-dioxo-pyrazolidines, in which the alkyl group has at least 4 carbon atoms, and metal salts thereof, are prepared by condensing an a , a , a -tri(alkoxycarbonyl) alkane, in which the alkoxy groups contain 1 to 4 carbon atoms and the alkane group contains at least 5 carbon atoms, with hydrazobenzene in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide, an alkali metal alkyl or aryl or an alkali metal amide as condensing agent, and, if desired, liberating the basic compound from the alkali metal salt of the pyrazolidine formed. The reaction is preferably carried out at 100 DEG to 200 DEG C. and an inert solvent having a boiling point above the reaction temperature may be used. Specification 976,594 is referred to.
