Abstract

976,021. Spring mattresses. R. GOODMAN, and SEALY Inc. March 6, 1963 [March 6, 1962; Feb. 5, 1963], No. 8957/63. Heading A4M. A box spring assembly comprises a spring tensioned upper deck 12A having a spring-tensioned cross-wire network 18, a rigid lower deck 14A, and supporting arms 30A, which are pivoted to cross-bars 26A on the lower deck at 28A and fixed into slots in the upper deck 12A, the arms 30A being biased by gravity to pivot in one direction and held against this movement by the spring tensioned upper deck 12A. The arms 30A have extensions 34A to prevent them moving beyond a predetermined position, and they may be interconnected by springs 60 and 62, Fig. 5, to provide an auxiliary flexible support. To prevent the centre of the upper deck 12A sagging, spring rods 44A are connected between the two end cross-bars 28A and to the upper deck 12A by tie wires. Two arms 36A are positioned to support the ends of the upper deck. The whole assembly is covered with a flexible cover.
