Abstract
N - (31 - Carboxy - 41 - cetylsulphonylphenyl) -1-hydroxy-2-naphthamide is prepared by reacting 2-chloro-5-nitrobenzoic acid with cetyl mercaptan in the presence of potassium hydroxide, dissolving the 2-cetylmercapto-compound formed in acetic acid and oxidizing it with hydrogen peroxide to give 2-cetylsulphonyl - 5 - nitrobenzoic acid, reducing this to the corresponding amine with catalytic hydrogen, and condensing the amine with phenyl 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoate and distilling off the phenol formed.
