Abstract

975,373. Electromedical apparatus. HITACHI SEISAKUSHO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. July 9, 1962 [July 10, 1961; July 12, 1961], No. 26279/62. Heading A5K. In order to reduce the weight of an electrocardiograph the use of a mains transformer is avoided by connecting the amplifier directly to the supply through a rectifier and suitable voltage control means and to avoid risk to the patient the input terminals are insulated from the amplifier by a coupling transformer. The weight of the latter is also minimized by converting the input to a modulated high frequency which is subsequently demodulated in the amplifier. The basic circuit provides an amplifier 6 connected to the mains supply (100 v.) through a rectifier and voltage-dropping impedance 10, and with its input fed through a transformer 5 from the input terminals 3, 4. The actual input is converted to modulated H.F. by a high frequency introduced into the circuit through a rectifier 1. Interference due to stray capacity in the coupling transformer may be overcome by earthing the secondary winding, but this necessitates the insertion of a transformer-coupled pre-amplifier which may be powered by rectifying the output from an additional winding on the H.F. transformer. In cases where an electric motor is provided for driving a recording mechanism, this motor may be used as the voltage dropping impedance.
