Mains operated electrical apparatus includes a signal amplifier having an output transformer or output transformers 3, 4 and wherein the mains unit and the transformer or transformers are included in the apparatus as a structural entity separate from the amplifier. In Figs. 1, 2 a mains unit on a U-shaped chassis preferably of the type described in Specification 961,711 has two output transformers 3, 4 arranged at the open end to minimize coupling. An insulating plate 5, Fig. 3, with adhering conductors is supported by battens 20. The plate 5 supports the capacitor 6 and rectifier 7. Fuseholders 14, 15 and the voltage selective switch 12 are also mounted directly on the plate. Notches 10, 11 in the plate allow the leads of the mains transformer 2 and other components to be connected and dip soldered.
