Abstract

A method of producing a free machining resulphurized steel comprises adding sulphur and then uranium to the steel melt the percentage of uranium being 1-9 (preferably 2-5) times the percentage of sulphur. In an example uranium is aded to a steel containing C 0.1%, Cr 12%, S 0.25%.
