Abstract
A process for the manufacture of killed steels by the use of aluminium comprises adding the steel to a ladle which has been provided with rods of aluminium fixed to the bottom thereof and extending to just below the surface of the steel when run into the ladle. The rods may be of spiral form and the steel may first be tapped into an intermediate ladle to remove any slag. In a modification the steel may have a higher sulphur content than normal and sufficient aluminium may be used to leave 0,08-0,2% of aluminium in the steel.
