Abstract
975,277. Printing apparatus. KOSSET CARPETS Ltd. Oct. 17, 1962 [Oct. 25, 1961] No. 38240/61. Heading B6C. In a pile fabric dyeing apparatus a printing forme 15 of the type shown in Fig. 2 of Specification 868,415 is filled from above by means of an arrangement 1, Fig. 1, supported by a bracket 2 from a table 3 vertically movable by an hydraulic ram 4. The forme 15 is supported on a horizontally reciprocating slide 16 driven by a motor 19 through a gearing and lead-screw 18, 17. The slide 16 is guided on the table 3 by guides 20, Fig. 2. The receptacles of the forme are filled whilst the forme is in position 15<SP>1</SP> through metering devices 25 in the form of piston valves. Sixty-four are shown in the drawings although about 500 are normally required per square yard of fabric. Each device 25, which is supported on a plate 26 carried by legs 27 extending upwardly from the bracket 2, has a flexible outlet pipe 28 the lower end of which is located by means of a perforated plate 29 above the particular forme receptacles it is to fill. Each receptacle may be supplied from two or more devices 25. Each device comprises a body 35, Fig. 3, closed except for a capillary tube 36 slidably mounted in an upper closure 37. The valve has a piston 39 biased upwardly by a spring 42 acting between the closure 37 and a tappet 44 mounted on a rod 45 turning between a pair of flanges 46 extending upwardly from a plate 47. The valve inlet 48 connects through a pipe 55 to a reservoir 56 and is closed when the piston 39 is in its uppermost position. The latter carries a spigot 49 which in the lowermost position of the piston cuts-off the supply of colouring agent to the outlet pipe 28. A reservoir 56 is supplied for each colouring agent. When the piston is in its lowest position, the colouring agent flows from its reservoir into the body 35, the displaced air passing through the tube 36, until the level of the agent reaches the bottom of the tube when the air above this level is trapped and no further appreciable entry of agent into the body 35 is then possible. By adjusting the position of the bottom of the tube the quantity of agent entering the body 35 may be varied. The metering devices 25 are discharged simultaneously through actuation of pneumatic cylinders 70 and 70<SP>1</SP> which rotate the rods 45 through rods 68, links 67 and crank arms 66. The cylinders 70 and 70<SP>1</SP> are operated independently of one another each being associated with the devices 25 filling half the forme so that with a forme one yard square carpets of intermediate widths such as 7¢ or 10¢ feet may be readily dyed by filling only half the forme when required.
