Abstract
975,265. Refrigerators. KELVINATOR Ltd. March 15, 1962 [March 16, 1961], No. 9669/61. Heading F4H. Heat-exchange apparatus comprises tubing in contact with one wall of a space containing expanded or foamed synthetic resin insulating material, and a film or foil interposed between the tubing and the insulating material which is expanded in situ to retain the film or foil fold about the tubing and against the wall. As shown, a refrigerator comprises a metal liner 1 and a metal shell 2 having tubes 3 and 4 in respective contact therewith, the tubes being covered by aluminium foil 5 which is retained in position by in situ foamed insulation 6. The latter may be obtained by the steam heating of polystyrene beads or by the chemical reaction between di-isocyanate or tri-isocyanate and a polyol.
