Actuating solenoids 23 for the pins 17, 20 of a pin carriage have one terminal connected to a busbar 51 in series with which there is a switch 32 closed only when the carriage is in a denominational position. The carriage is released to a spring 19 when a "9" pin 17 is depressed by a plate 24 operated by solenoid 25 which is energized whenever a solenoid 23 is energized. The stop 18 against which the pins 17 bear controls switch 32. As long as stop 18 is not in contact with a pin 17 spring 28 moves stop 18 to the right, opening contacts 30, 31 of switch 32. Lever 35 which is rotated anticlockwise as the pin carriage moves to the left besides controlling a stepping switch 41 (38, 40 in Fig. 3) can also be used to control switch 32 (shown as 32a in Fig. 2) by means of rack 54, while arm 55 is riding over a tooth of the rack switch 32a is open. The rack may be so designed that switch 32a is closed just before the carriage takes up a denominational position, so that a multiorder number is entered with substantially continuous movement of the pin carriage.
