In an I.C. engine remote control device having a pump 8 and a fuel injection pump control member 13 connected together by piping to which is connected a cylinder in which a piston 2 controls the flow area of an aperture 10, the piston is loaded partly by liquid pressure and partly by a helical spring 3 whose pre-stressing can be adjusted by hand. Pump 8 delivers oil from container 9 to cylinder 1 and cylinder 12 in which a spring-loaded piston 13 acts upon a rod 15 and rack 16 to operate the regulating shaft of fuel injection pump 20. Pressure in pipe C rises to a valve corresponding to the compression of spring 3 as prestressed by cam 6. Further pressure increase displaces pistons 2, 13 until piston 2 uncovers port 10 to spill oil back to the container 9. Piston 13 takes up a position corresponding to the pressure in cylinder 1 when piston 2 is stabilized. An anti-freezing compound may replace the oil and in modifications the apertures 10 may be disposed around the cylinder periphery or may be formed by lateral cuts in the cylinder wall. Selector A may be in a driver's cab or ship's bridge and distribution member B in an engine compartment.
