Abstract

974,385. Discharging liquids under gaseous pressure. VALVE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Nov. 13, 1962 [Nov. 15, 1961], No. 42873/62. Heading FIR. An aerosol container includes a push button with a sloping top 20, which button fits in a guard cap 24 whose top edge corresponds with that of the button and has a hollow boss 40 accommodating a valve 36. The button has a discharge channel 42 which terminates in an orifice 32 occupying a slot 34 so as to retain the button in the cap. A flange 66 on the cap member 24 fits under a detent shoulder 62 formed on an annular shoulder 30 provided at the dispensing end 12 of the container 10. A collar 48 fits under a shoulder 56 on the cap 24 and into a groove 52 in the annular shoulder 30. The cap is made of flexible plastic material so as to enable the flange 66 to slide over the shoulder 62 on assembly and the collar 48 is compressed thereby so as to secure the cap 24 in position. Instead of having a frusto-conical shape, the collar may be partly spherical or cylindrical.
