Abstract

In a method of evaporating and concentrating scale-forming solutions, hot water circulates on one side of the heat exchange surface and the solution to be concentrated circulates on the other side, the two circuits being periodically interchanged. The hot water is preferably heated by steam, particularly steam derived from the liquid to be concentrated; in a series of evaporators, steam produced in one evaporator is used to heat the water for the next evaporator. Evaporators of the plate type and with a tubular exchange surface are specified.
