974,049. Pliers. W. JACKSON. March 27, 1963 [April 19, 1962], No. 15161/62. Heading B4W. [Also in Division H2] A pliers-like tool for stripping insulation from wire has two pairs of jaws both of which grip the insulation and then move apart to rupture it. A shown, the top two jaws 15, 16 are attached respectively to handles 20, 21, and the bottom jaws are each pivoted at 27, 28 to the corresponding upper jaw. Jaws 13, 14 are attached to extensions 25, 26, the ends of which terminate in a stirrup 30 on which is mounted a handle 10. A spring 31 normally holds the upper jaws away from the lower. When handle 10 is closed on handles 20, 21, against the action of spring 31, both pairs of jaws 13, 15 and 14, 16 grip the insulation. Handles 20, 21 are then brought together against the action of spring 33. Each pair of jaws then separates from the other to rupture the insulation. The outside of the jaws where the cable is gripped may be recessed.
