973,766. Paper-making apparatus. H. E. B. SCOTT. Oct. 21, 1963 [Nov. 20, 1962], No. 43897/62. Heading D2A. A doctor for a press roll 10 of a papermaking machine comprises a fixed support 11A, a doctor blade 12 and a blade holder 11B pivoted to the support 11A for movement about arc axis parallel to the edge of the doctor blade and serving to apply operating pressure to the doctor blade, while the support is adapted to take the weight of the brake produced on breakage of the paper web. The holder 11B has a series of spaced stub spindles 18 anommodated in bearings 19 on support 11A. The bearings have linings of antifriction material-for example porous bronze impregnated with polytetrafluoroethylene-so that the doctor blade and holder may be oscillated. The doctor may be adjusted to the camber of roll 10 by screw 29.
