A wire band for binding under pressure bales of cotton or paper has a hammer shaped head 3 at one end and a buckle at the other comprising a wide portion 1 and a narrowed portion 2, the buckle and head being interconnected with the band by twisted portions 4, 5 and the plane of the head is at an angle to the twisted portion 4 and the plane of the narrow part 2 of the buckle is at an angle to the twisted portion 5.
