The driving gear of a face conveyer and/or a winning machine of a mineral-mining installation is positively secured in a road by struts engaging the floor and roof and/or walls of a roadway. In the embodiment shown the struts 18, 19 and 24 are hydraulically actuated jacks. In other embodiments the jacks 18 and 19 may be replaced by opposed, aligned jacks having a common cylinder casting and the jack 24 may be absent. Specifications 973,252 and 973,253 are referred to.
