973,116. Printed resistors. BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 9, 1962 [Nov. 15, 1961], No. 40924/61. Heading HIS. A group of electrical resistors is produced by fixing a metal foil, carrying on one of its faces a layer of resistance material, to an insulating support, the layer of resistance material being adjacent the support, the foil is then etched away to leave two or more pairs of terminal areas overlapping the resistance material and then the resistance material is removed in part so as to leave discrete areas thereof cooperating with each pair of terminal areas. Fig. 3 shows one embodiment in which terminal areas 16 have been produced by etching away unwanted areas of foil mounted on an insulating base, 15, discrete areas of the resistance material 18 are created by punching out areas of the insulating base carrying the resistance material between the aforesaid discrete areas. Fig. 4 shows an alternative embodiment in which the discrete areas of resistance material are separated by removing the unwanted resistance material by abrasion, as at 20, and in which the resistance value between terminals 16 is increased by punching out areas of resistance coated base to make the path between the terminals tortuous. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 690,691.
