A fastening linkage for doors or windows including a coupling device between a driving member 4 and a driven member 5 comprises a guide member 3 and a coupling pin 8 arranged for sliding motion, under the control of the driving member, in a guiding slot 9 in the guide member 3, the direction of the slot and the arrangement of the coupling pin 8 with respect to the driving and driven members being such that for the same portion of its motion in either direction the driving member 4 is coupled to the driven member 5 by the pin 8, so that they move together and for another portion of the motion of the driving member in either direction, the coupling is released. As shown, a coupling lug 1 fixed to the driving member 4 and projecting through the guide member 3 terminates in a limit stop 1<SP>111</SP> adjacent a recess 11. The driven member 5, also projecting into guide member 3, terminates in a forked lug 2 having a slot 10. In use, movement of the driving member 4 in the direction of arrow 12, from the position shown in Fig. 1 in which the members 4 and 5 are locked together by the engagement of pin 8 with the slot 10 and recess 11, carries with it the driven member 5 until the pin 8 enters an obliquely extending portion 9<SP>11</SP> of the slot 9 whereupon the pin is lifted from the recess 11 and bears on the upper edge of the lug 1 within the slot 10 of the lug 2 to lock the member 5 in the position shown in Fig. 3 until the member 4 is subsequently moved in the opposite direction to cause the stop 1<SP>111</SP> to re-entrain the pin 8 with the portion 9<SP>1</SP> of the slot 9 to effect withdrawal of the member to the position shown in Fig. 1. In modifications, a slot portion 9<SP>11</SP> may be provided at both ends of the portion 9<SP>1</SP> or at the end opposite to that shown and may include horizontally extending additions to the part 9.
