Abstract
972,992. Crystal holders for monochromators. CARL ZEISS JENA VEB. March 10, 1961, No. 8931/61. Heading H5B. Curved crystals for X-ray monochromators are held against the curved bearing surface of a holder by one or more flexible curved strips which are secured at one end to the said surface. In the form shown, the curved crystal plate 16 is supported against the curved bearing surfaces (as at 14) formed at the upper ends of the legs 11, 12 of a U-shaped body 13. It is held in position by two flexible steel strips 19, 20, clamped at one end by reinforcing plates and screws 23 to the body 13, and at the other end by reinforcing plates 24, 25 and screws 26 to a rod 27. Rod 27 pivots on a pin 29 fixed to a rod 28. Rod 28 joins the legs of a U- shaped -balance member 30, the legs having recesses 31, 32 which engage on knife-edges 33, 34 fast with body 13. The U-member 30 has an extension 35 which is attached by a screw 36 to body 13. Thus tightening screws 36 tilts the U-member about the knife-edges to tighten the strips and so hold the crystal firmly in position. Loosening this screw relaxes the strips, enabling the crystal to be removed.
